4ms Shuffling Clock Multiplier
Eight multiplied clocks with swing, shuffle, and slip
4 HP Eurorack module
The 4ms Shuffling Clock Multiplier is a clock multiplier that generates eight simultaneous clock outputs at multiples of an input clock, ranging from x1 to x8. Five of the outputs feature Slip, Shuffle, and Skip effects that push beats forward in time to create swing, shuffle, and syncopated rhythm patterns, while three outputs remain perfectly straight. Its musical character is rhythmically generative and groove-focused, capable of everything from tight polyrhythmic clocking to loose, humanized swing feels.
Features
- Multiply-by-1 to Multiply-by-8 on 8 simultaneous output jacks
- Maximum Multiply-by-32 with optional breakout panel
- Five slipped/shuffled/skipped clock outputs: S3, S4, S5, S6, S8
- Three steady unaffected clock outputs: x1, x2, x8
- CV Rotate jack shifts multiply-by amounts across all jacks (0V to 5.1V, eight steps)
- CV Slip jack pushes alternate beats forward in time (0V = no slip, 5V = 90% slip)
- Default normalized CV Slip of approximately 2.5V (50% slippage) when jack is unpatched
- Tap tempo operation: measures time between previous two input pulses
- Continues outputting at last known tempo if input clock stops
- Rising edge triggered clock input, accepts 3.5V to 15V
- Maximum input frequency 3kHz
- Arduino-compatible UART header for MIDI breakout (forthcoming)
Controls & Jacks (13)
- Clock Input — Clock signal input (3.5V to 15V, rising edge triggered). Module measures time between pulses to determine output frequency.
- S3 — Multiply-by-3 output with slip/shuffle/skip effects. Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- x2 — Multiply-by-2 output with slip/shuffle/skip. Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- x1 — Multiply-by-1 output (straight clock, not affected by slip/shuffle/skip). Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- CV Slip — CV control for amount of beat slippage (0V to +5.1V, normalized to 2.5V for 50% slip). Shifts selected beats forward in time.
- S5 — Multiply-by-5 output with slip/shuffle/skip effects. Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- S4 — Multiply-by-4 output with slip/shuffle/skip effects. Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- S6 — Multiply-by-6 output with slip/shuffle/skip effects. Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- x8 — Multiply-by-8 output (straight clock, not affected by slip/shuffle/skip). Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- CV Rotate — CV control for rotating clock multiples across outputs (0V to +5.1V). Allows dynamic shifting of multiply-by amounts.
- S8 — Multiply-by-8 output with slip/shuffle/skip effects. Base multiply-by amount can be rotated via CV Rotate.
- Rotate — Manual control for rotating clock multiples across output jacks (0-7 rotation values). Pairs with CV Rotate jack.
- Slip — Manual control for setting the amount of beat slippage (0-90%). Pairs with CV Slip jack.
