ALM Busy Circuits Akemie's Taiko
Authentic Yamaha OPL3 FM drum voice for Eurorack
18 HP Eurorack module
Akemie's Taiko is an authentic FM synthesis drum voice built around a vintage Yamaha YMF262 (OPL3) chip, offering 6 algorithms, 8 waveforms, and direct CV control over operator parameters. It produces percussive hits with accent and choke inputs, and can also track 1V/oct for melodic use. The module delivers a wide palette of sounds from classic 80s FM drum tones to wild siren-like frequency sweeps.
Features
- Yamaha YMF262 (OPL3) FM synthesis chip — authentic vintage sound source
- 6 selectable FM algorithms (2 two-operator, 4 four-operator)
- 8 selectable waveforms: Sine, Half-Sine, Abs Sine, Pulse Sine, Alternating Sine, Camel Sine, Square, Logarithmic Sawtooth/Derived Square
- Approximately 64 waveform combinations across operators
- CV control over Algo, Release 1, Release 2, Waves, Ratio, Feedback, Freq Start, Freq End, Speed
- 1V/oct pitch tracking across approximately 5 octaves on both Freq Start and Freq End
- Trimmer on rear of module for V/oct calibration
- Optional frequency ramp from Freq Start to Freq End with variable speed
- Trigger input for percussive hit (approx +3V rising edge)
- Accent trigger input to emphasise hit volume
- Choke trigger input to immediately stop sound
- All input/control values snapshotted at trigger — no mid-note parameter changes
Controls & Jacks (33)
- Waves — Selects waveform combination for operators. Approximately 64 different combinations available. White knob offset control.
- Freq Start — Coarse tuning of base frequency (Freq Start).
- Freq Start Fine — Controls release envelope curve of operator 1 (and 3 in 4-operator modes). 16 discrete steps from tens of milliseconds to many minutes. Whit
- Release 2 — Controls release envelope curve of operator 2 (and 4 in 4-operator modes). 16 discrete steps from tens of milliseconds to many minutes. Whit
- Ratio — Controls integer frequency ratios between operators. Generally increases as knob turns clockwise. White knob offset control.
- Algo — Selects one of 6 FM synthesis algorithms. First 2 are 2-operator, remainder are 4-operator. White knob offset control.
- Release 1 — Attenuverter for Release 2 CV input. Black thumb pot.
- Speed — Controls transition speed from start to end frequency. Turning past 9pm enables frequency ramp. White knob offset control.
- Fb — Feedback on the first operator (0-7 range). Produces more percussive noisy sounds or has little effect in certain combinations. White knob o
- Waves CV Attenuverter — Fine tuning of base frequency (Freq Start). White knob offset control.
- Ratio CV Attenuverter — End frequency for frequency ramp effect. White knob offset control.
- Release 2 CV Attenuverter — Attenuverter for Release 1 CV input. Black thumb pot.
