Apollo View Modular Vamp
8HP multimode tube filter with bite
8 HP Eurorack module
Vamp is an 8HP voltage-controlled analogue multimode filter with low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass responses, a 12AU7 vacuum tube, a relocatable VCA, resonant self-oscillation, and selectable output clipping.
Features
- Three-mode analogue filter with low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass responses.
- Sallen-Key filter topology with vacuum-tube saturation and clipping.
- Flow relocates the integrated VCA before the tube or after the filter.
- Fangs provides bypass, soft-clipping, and hard-clipping output treatments.
- Calibratable 1V/octave tracking supports tuned self-oscillation.
- Gain, Freak, and Rez CV inputs are normalled in series and have individual bipolar attenuverters.
- Remember: Extreme resonance can produce very hot output levels; use soft or hard Fangs clipping to manage the signal and shape its peaks.
Controls & Jacks (19)
- Cutoff LED Ring— Illuminated ring around the tube that indicates the combined cutoff control produced by the Freak knob, Freak CV, and 1V/Oct input.
- Freak— Sets the filter cutoff or centre frequency from approximately 10 Hz to 21 kHz; its setting sums with Freak CV and the 1V/Oct input.
- Freak CV— Modulates the filter cutoff frequency through the Freak CV attenuverter; breaks the normalled connection from Gain CV while remaining normal
- Gain CV— Controls VCA level and, depending on the Flow setting, either input-tube drive or post-filter output level; normalled onward to Freak CV and
- Audio In— Main audio input; its level determines how strongly the pre-filter triode saturates, directly in post-filter Flow mode or under Gain control
- Rez CV— Controls resonance intensity through the Rez CV attenuverter and breaks the upstream CV normalling when patched.
- Rez CV Attenuverter— Bipolarly scales or inverts Rez CV, with zero modulation near the centre position.
- Audio Out— Main filtered output after the Fangs clipping stage; level and character depend on input level, Gain, Rez, Flow, and Fangs settings.
- Freak CV Attenuverter— Bipolarly scales or inverts Freak CV, with zero modulation near the centre position.
- Gain CV Attenuverter— Bipolarly scales or inverts Gain CV, with zero modulation near the centre position.
- 1V/Oct— Unattenuated one-volt-per-octave cutoff input that sums with the Freak knob and Freak CV for key tracking or pitched self-oscillation.
- Flow— Relocates the VCA: the upper pre-tube position places it before the tube and filter for dynamic drive, while the lower post-filter position
- Fangs— Selects output clipping: bypass in the upper position, progressive soft clipping in the middle, or precision hard limiting at approximately
- Filter Mode— Selects the filter response: high-pass in the upper position, band-pass in the middle, or low-pass in the lower position.
- Gain Level Indicator— Its brightness indicates the combined Gain knob and Gain CV amount.
- Resonance Indicator— Its brightness indicates the combined Rez knob and Rez CV amount.
- 1V/Oct Calibration— Calibrates the filter's one-volt-per-octave cutoff tracking for accurate pitched self-oscillation and key tracking.
- Gain— Controls the vintage VCA from zero to approximately unity gain; it sets tube drive when Flow is pre-tube and output level or Fangs drive whe
- Rez— Sets resonance from subtle emphasis through self-oscillation and into heavily tube-compressed feedback.
