Befaco Burst
Trigger-activated burst generator for rhythmic complexity
8 HP Eurorack module
Burst is a trigger processor and generator that converts a single incoming trigger into a rhythmic burst of multiple triggers, all fitting within a defined time window. It offers deep control over the number, distribution, timing, and probability of triggers, making it ideal for ratcheting, polyrhythms, drum roll synthesis, and generative rhythmic variation. Its pingable time window and cycle mode give it a musical, tempo-aware character that feels organic and expressive.
Features
- Converts a single trigger into a burst of up to 32 triggers
- Pingable time window set by Ping IN or tap tempo via encoder
- Quantity Encoder controls trigger count and tap tempo
- LED round display shows trigger quantity, burst state, and knob/CV changes
- Distribution control shapes trigger spacing: linear, logarithmic, or exponential
- Time Division/Multiplication divides or multiplies time window by up to 8x
- Probability control randomly inhibits triggers for generative variation
- Cycle switch enables looping burst for clock division/multiplication use
- EOC (End of Cycle) output triggers when burst finishes
- Tempo Out provides a clock at the internal tempo
- Ping IN sets time window without requiring continuous clock
- Quantity CV bipolar input: -5V subtracts 16, 0V unchanged, 5V adds 16
Controls & Jacks (19)
- Probability — Adds unpredictability to the trigger train by controlling how often the burst is randomly inhibited. Can also function as an inhibit control
- Time Div/Mult — Divides or multiplies the time window by up to 8x. Center position has no effect. Clockwise multiplies, counterclockwise divides.
- Distribution — Manual control of trigger amount (1-32 triggers) and tap tempo functionality. Tapping sets the time window for bursts. Settings are stored i
- Manual Trigger — Manually initializes a burst from the beginning. Not affected by Probability settings by default. Hold for 8 seconds to toggle initial trigg
- Quantity — Manual control of trigger amount (1-32 triggers) and tap tempo functionality. Tapping sets the time window for bursts. Settings are stored i
- LED Round Display — Visual feedback showing trigger quantity (always one LED lit), burst visualization with LEDs blinking in sequence, and knob/CV setting chang
- Cycle — Puts Burst in loop mode to repeat continuously. In Cycle mode, triggers are still affected by Probability settings. If a trigger is present,
- PROBABILITY — Adds unpredictability to the trigger train by controlling how often the burst is randomly inhibited. Can also function as an inhibit control
- Ping IN — Sets the size of the time window via trigger or clock input.
- Distribution CV IN — input jack
- Time Div/Mult — Divides or multiplies the time window by up to 8x. Center position has no effect. Clockwise multiplies, counterclockwise divides.
- Quantity CV IN — input jack
- Probability CV IN — CV input for probability control.
- Trigg IN — Initialize the burst via external gate or trigger.
- OUT — Main trigger output for the generated burst.
- EOC — End of Cycle output, triggers when burst finishes.
- Tempo OUT — Clock output at the internal tempo.
- Quantity — Manual control of trigger amount (1-32 triggers) and tap tempo functionality. Tapping sets the time window for bursts. Settings are stored i
- Time Div/Mult CV IN — CV input for time division/multiplication.
