Befaco RANDOM8
Eight channels of looping, evolving random voltage with per-channel scale, probability, slide, offset and step length
8 HP Eurorack module
RANDOM8 is a deep eight-channel looping random voltage generator built by Befaco in collaboration with Mylar Melodies. Each channel turns incoming triggers into voltages whose character is shaped by an independent chain of clock division, step probability, distribution style, quantizer scale, slide, offset and step length. A state machine on every row lets a stream of pure random voltages become a repeating loop, slowly evolve, or freeze — making the module equally useful for generative melodies, drum accents, slowly morphing modulation, and branching sequences. Trigger inputs are top-down normalized so a single clock can drive every channel.
Features
- Eight fully independent channels of looping random voltage in 8HP
- Per-channel state machine: Random → Looping → Evolving → Locked
- Per-channel clock divider (DIVIDR) from ÷1 to ÷8 for cross-rhythms
- Per-channel step probability (PROB) to skip steps for sparseness
- Eight distribution styles (STYLE): five statistical, one alternating, two wandering
- Per-channel DC offset (OFFSET) for clipping and re-shaping distributions
- Sixteen quantizer options (SCALE): 14 musical scales plus unquantized and 1V/Oct
- Per-channel post-quantizer slide/slew (SLIDE) for portamento and smoothing
- Per-channel loop length (STEPS) from 1 to 32 steps
- Eight save/recall preset slots for the entire module state (PRESET)
- Top-down normalized trigger inputs — one clock can drive every channel
- 8 output jacks span 0–10V unipolar
Controls & Jacks (32)
- Ch 1 Out — 0–10V unipolar CV output for channel 1. Carries the post-attenuator, post-quantized random voltage for the topmost channel.
- Ch 1 Trig In — Clock or trigger input for channel 1. Each rising edge advances channel 1's random-voltage state machine (random / looping / evolving / lock
- Ch 1 Attenuator — Scales channel 1's output voltage from 0 to 100% before it reaches the Out jack. When a menu is active (button held 1s on any row) this knob
