Mutable Instruments Frames
Keyframing analog mixer with digital control
18 HP Eurorack module
Frames is a Mutable Instruments keyframer/mixer that stores up to 20 snapshots (keyframes) of a 4-channel mixer state and interpolates smoothly between them. Sweep the Frame knob or use CV to morph between stored settings. Each channel can process audio or CV signals with individual and mix outputs.
Features
- 4-channel DC-coupled VCA mixer based on V2164 IC
- Up to 20 keyframes storing complete mix states
- Per-channel interpolation curves: stepped, linear, accelerating, decelerating, sine, bouncy
- Selectable CV/VCA response from linear to logarithmic
- Global input with precision voltage reference normalization
- Individual channel outputs plus global mix output
- 12-bit digital control resolution
- CV and gate inputs for external sequencing control
Controls & Jacks (26)
- Channel 1 Gain — Controls gain/level of channel 1; in keyframer mode sets value at current keyframe position
- Channel 2 Gain — Controls gain/level of channel 2; in keyframer mode sets value at current keyframe position
- Channel 3 Gain — Controls gain/level of channel 3; in keyframer mode sets value at current keyframe position
- Channel 4 Gain — Controls gain/level of channel 4; in keyframer mode sets value at current keyframe position
- Channel 1 LED — RGB LED showing channel 1 value and keyframe proximity
- Channel 2 LED — RGB LED showing channel 2 value and keyframe proximity
- Channel 3 LED — RGB LED showing channel 3 value and keyframe proximity
- Channel 4 LED — RGB LED showing channel 4 value and keyframe proximity
- Add — Stores a new keyframe at current Frame position with current channel values
- Frame — Selects position along the animation timeline; sweeping morphs between stored keyframes
- Modulation — Attenuverter controlling how much Frame CV input affects frame position
- Del — Deletes the keyframe nearest to the current Frame position
- Edit — Enters edit mode where channel knobs modify keyframe response curves instead of gains
- Offset — Adds +10V offset to all outputs, converting bipolar to unipolar for VCA control
- All CV In — CV input normalled to all 4 channels simultaneously
- Channel 1 CV In — CV input for channel 1; breaks normalling from All CV In
- Channel 2 CV In — CV input for channel 2; breaks normalling from All CV In
- Channel 3 CV In — CV input for channel 3; breaks normalling from All CV In
- Channel 4 CV In — CV input for channel 4; breaks normalling from All CV In
- Frame CV In — CV input for controlling Frame position externally, scaled by Modulation knob
- Mix Out — Mixed output summing all four channels
- Channel 1 Out — Individual output for channel 1
- Channel 2 Out — Individual output for channel 2
- Channel 3 Out — Individual output for channel 3
- Channel 4 Out — Individual output for channel 4
- Fr. Step Out — Trigger output when frame position crosses a keyframe boundary
