Dual self-oscillating multimode filters with crossfader and overdrive

The Morgasmatron is a dual multimode self-oscillating VCF and crossfader featuring two completely independent six-mode filters (A and B) that can be routed in series or parallel and blended via a crossfader. Each filter self-oscillates at maximum Q for pitched sine wave oscillator duties, tracks 1V/Oct, and features its own overdrive, Q-drive, and soft-clipping circuitry. The module excels at everything from classic filter sweeps and formant simulation to ring modulation, dual oscillator synthesis, and aggressively saturated distortion.
Features
- Two completely independent six-mode filters (LP2, LP1, BP1, HP1, HP2, BR1)
- Both filters self-oscillate at maximum Q producing pitched sine waves
- Dedicated 1V/Oct input per filter for pitch tracking over several octaves
- Filter A 1V/Oct normalled to Filter B 1V/Oct (broken by inserting a plug into Filter B 1V/Oct)
- Filter A FM2 normalled to Filter B FM2 (broken by inserting a plug into Filter B FM2)
- Series or parallel routing switchable via toggle
- XFADE crossfader blends Filter A and Filter B at MIX OUT
- XFADE CV input with attenuverter for CV-controlled crossfading
- XFADE Balance LED provides visual indication of crossfade amount
- Overdrive circuit exclusive to Filter A for aggressive saturation
- Q-Drive per filter feeds resonance back to prevent drowning at high amplitude
- Soft-clipping on both filters via IN knob and Q-Drive
Controls & Jacks (38)
- In B — Sets the input drive/amplification level for Filter B. Unity gain around 12 o'clock.
- Cutoff A — Sets the cutoff frequency of Filter A. Combined with FM1 and FM2 inputs.
- Dry A — Bypasses Filter A at the crossfader input when engaged, passing the unfiltered signal.
- FM1 A — Attenuator for FM1 input modulation of Filter A cutoff. Fully clockwise tracks 1V/Oct.
- Mode A — Selects filter mode for Filter A: LP2, LP1, BP1, HP1, HP2, or BR1 (notch).
- Dry B — Bypasses Filter B at the crossfader input when engaged, passing the unfiltered signal.
- In A — Sets the input drive/amplification level for Filter A. Unity gain around 12 o'clock.
- FM2 A — Attenuverter for FM2 input modulation of Filter A cutoff. Center position is 12 o'clock with no effect.
- Q A — Sets resonance of Filter A. Combined with Q CV input.
- Mode B — Selects filter mode for Filter B: LP2, LP1, BP1, HP1, HP2, or BR1 (notch).
- XFade Attenuverter — Scales and inverts the XFADE CV input. 12 o'clock is no effect.
- FM2 B — Attenuverter for FM2 input modulation of Filter B cutoff. Center position is 12 o'clock with no effect.
- Overdrive — Activates the overdrive circuit for Filter A, providing aggressive saturation and distortion.
- FM1 B — Attenuator for FM1 input modulation of Filter B cutoff. Fully clockwise tracks 1V/Oct.
- Q A — CV input for modulating Filter A resonance.
- Q-Drive A — Adds drive to resonance of Filter A, maintaining high resonance at higher gains and soft-clipping the oscillation.
- Phase Invert B — Inverts the phase of Filter B signal at the crossfader. Used for ring modulation and timbral variation.
- Q B — CV input for modulating Filter B resonance.
- Cutoff B — Sets the cutoff frequency of Filter B. Combined with FM1 and FM2 inputs.
- Q B — Sets resonance of Filter B. Combined with Q CV input.
- Mix Out — Blended output of Filter A and Filter B, with balance determined by XFade knob and CV input.
- FM1 B — CV input for modulating Filter B cutoff frequency. Scaled by FM1 knob.
- Q-Drive B — Adds drive to resonance of Filter B, maintaining high resonance at higher gains and soft-clipping the oscillation.
- FM1 A — CV input for modulating Filter A cutoff frequency. Scaled by FM1 knob.
- XFade — Crossfades between Filter A and Filter B at the MIX output. 12 o'clock is equal blend.
- Out B — Audio output of Filter B.
- XFade CV — CV input for modulating the crossfade between Filter A and Filter B. Scaled by XFade Attenuverter.
- 1V/Oct A — Dedicated 1V/octave input for tracking keyboard or sequencer pitch on Filter A. Normalized to 1V/Oct B.
- FM2 A — Secondary CV input for modulating Filter A cutoff frequency. Scaled and inverted by FM2 knob. Normalized to FM2 B.
- FM2 B — Secondary CV input for modulating Filter B cutoff frequency. Scaled and inverted by FM2 knob.
- 1V/Oct B — Dedicated 1V/octave input for tracking keyboard or sequencer pitch on Filter B.
- Series/Parallel — Switches filter routing: Series (up) cascades Filter A into Filter B; Parallel (down) processes independently.
- Out A — Audio output of Filter A.
- In B — Audio input to Filter B.
- In A — Audio input to Filter A.
- XFade Balance — Visual indication of crossfade position. Left brightness shows Filter A level, right shows Filter B level.
- Overload LED A — Illuminates when Filter A output soft-clips.
- Overload LED B — Illuminates when Filter B output soft-clips.
