Make Noise Function
Single-channel analog computer for musical voltage functions
8 HP Eurorack module
FUNCTION is a single-channel analog computer from the MATHS family, capable of generating voltage-controlled envelopes, LFOs, clocks, lag processors, sample-and-hold, and much more. Its continuously variable response curve (log through linear to hyper-exponential), dedicated Hang input, and both EOR and EOC outputs give it a musical flexibility far beyond a typical envelope generator. It is a direct descendant of MATHS, distilled into 8HP with inverted and non-inverted outputs for simultaneous opposing modulation.
Features
- Single-channel descendent of MATHS sharing the same core analog circuit
- Continuously variable Vari-Response curve from logarithmic through linear to exponential to hyper-exponential
- Dedicated Hang input to freeze the function mid-cycle for S&H, T&H, staircase LFO, and clock run/stop
- Both EOR and EOC outputs (0V or 10V) for complex function chaining and clock/logic applications
- Non-Inverted and Inverted buffered signal outputs capable of driving a 4-way multiple
- Independent Rise CV input (linear) and Fall CV input (linear)
- Both CV input (bi-polar exponential) affecting total time with inverted polarity response vs Rise/Fall CV
- Cycle button with LED for self-oscillation as LFO, clock, or VCO
- Direct coupled Signal Input for lag, portamento, S&H, T&H, and ASR envelopes
- Trigger Input for envelope, pulse delay, clock division, and LFO reset
- Output range 0-8V when cycling; follows input amplitude otherwise
- EOR/EOC bi-color LED indicator (Red = EOC High, Green = EOR High)
Controls & Jacks (17)
- Signal Input — Direct coupled input to circuit. Use for Lag, Portamento, S&H, T&H and ASR envelopes.
- Trigger Input — Gate or Pulse applied to trigger the circuit regardless of Signal Input activity. Results in 0V to 8V function/envelope whose characteristic
- Cycle LED — Indicates whether Cycle is On or Off.
- Cycle — Button that causes the circuit to self-cycle, generating a repeating voltage function (LFO). Use for LFO, Clock, VCO.
- Rise — Sets the time it takes for the voltage function to ramp up. CW rotation increases Rise Time.
- Hang Input — Gate or Pulse applied to this input stops the circuit dead in its tracks. Use for programming S&H, Track and Hold, Stepped Functions, Steppe
- Fall — Sets the time it takes for the voltage function to ramp down. CW rotation increases Fall Time.
- Rise CV Input — Linear control signal input for Rise parameter. Positive signals increase Rise Time. Negative signals decrease Rise Time with respect to the
- Fall CV Input — Linear control signal input for Fall parameter. Positive signals increase Fall Time. Negative signals decrease Fall Time with respect to the
- Vari-Response — Sets the response curve of the voltage function. Continuously variable from Logarithmic through Linear to Exponential to Hyper-Exponential.
- Both CV Input — Bi-Polar Exponential control signal input for entire FUNCTION. Positive control signals decrease total time while Negative control signals i
- Activity — LED indicates activity within the circuit.
- Non-Inverted Output — Non-inverted signal from the FUNCTION circuit. Buffered and capable of accurately driving a 4-way multiple. 0-8V when Cycling. Otherwise fol
- EOR/EOC — Indicates the states of the EOR and EOC outputs. Red when EOC is High and EOR is Low. Green when EOR is High and EOC is Low.
- End Of Rise Output — Goes high at the end of the Rise portion of the function. 0V or 10V output.
- End Of Cycle Output — Goes high at the end of the Cycle (or Falling) portion of the function. 0V or 10V output.
- Inverted Output — Inverted signal from the FUNCTION circuit. Buffered and capable of accurately driving a 4-way multiple. 0-8V when Cycling. Otherwise mirrors
