Make Noise MMG
Vactrol VCF + low pass gate that sweeps LP to HP
12 HP Eurorack module
The MMG (Multimode Gate) is a Vactrol-based voltage-controlled filter and low pass gate built on Make Noise’s QMMG core. It bridges East-Coast and West-Coast styles: a 12dB/oct response that sweeps continuously from Low Pass to High Pass, an aggressive resonance circuit that clips and can self-oscillate, and Strike/Accent inputs for percussive, dynamic animation. Dual AC- and DC-coupled inputs allow mixing audio with CV for asymmetrical behaviors, while an Automatic Gain Control stage keeps output levels in check at high Q.
Features
- Vactrol-based voltage-controlled filter and low pass gate (QMMG core)
- Continuously sweepable mode from Low Pass to High Pass (12dB/oct)
- Voltage-controlled Mode, Frequency, and Q
- Aggressive Q-Factor that clips and self-oscillates at high settings
- Automatic Gain Control stage tames output level at high resonance
- Strike input for Optomix-style percussive plucks
- Accent input for X0X-style punch (pushes circuit to 110%)
- Dual inputs: AC-coupled (with drive attenuator) and DC-coupled (unattenuated)
- Frequency-to-Mode normalization enables quasi-bandpass / constant-power patches
- Two cutoff CV inputs: one attenuverted, one unity-gain
- Overload LED and Q-Clip LED for visual feedback
- Mixes two signals or combines control + audio for asymmetrical behaviors
