Noise Engineering Melotus Versio
Granular texturizer for doombient and beyond
10 HP Eurorack module
Melotus Versio is a stereo granular texturizer and delay that transforms audio into lush, evolving textures using grain-based processing. It offers extensive control over grain density, direction, length, and randomness, with a filter that adds haunting subharmonics or shimmering octave-up shimmer. Designed for doombient and experimental music, it can serve as everything from a rhythmic grain delay to a completely transformative sound sculpting tool.
Features
- Stereo granular texturizer with up to 24 simultaneous grains
- Grain direction control: forward, reverse, and chaos
- Grain freeze via toggle, momentary button, or CV gate
- Tap tempo and external clock input for rhythmic grain triggering
- Clock divider/multiplier with 9 ratio steps when in Clk mode
- Cohere control to reduce or increase randomness of grain triggering
- Bipolar Tone control: lowpass filter with detuned subharmonics left of noon, highpass with octave-up shimmer right of noon
- Regen feedback with input-ducking behavior past 3 o'clock
- Grain length from 0.2s to 2s
- Delay time from 0.1s to 8s
- CV inputs for Sparse, Tone, Length, Regen, Delay, and Cohere
- Stereo audio inputs and outputs
Controls & Jacks (27)
- Delay CV — CV input for Delay time parameter.
- Sparse CV — CV input for Sparse grain count parameter.
- In R — Right channel audio input.
- Tone CV — CV input for Tone filter parameter.
- In L — Left channel audio input.
- Regen CV — CV input for Regen feedback parameter.
- Status LED 1 — Status indicator LED (yellow on boot with standard firmware).
- Out R — Right channel audio output.
- Flow CV — CV/gate/trigger input for Flow control. Behavior depends on Mode setting.
- Delay — Sets the delay time of the grains from 0.1s to 8s. When in clocked mode, acts as a clock divider/multiplier with settings: 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/
- Cohere CV — CV input for Cohere randomness parameter.
- Regen — Feedback control. All the way to the left minimizes feedback. As the knob is turned, feedback increases, creating longer textures and comple
- Sparse — Changes the number of grains from 24 at minimum to 1 at maximum. Grains become more obvious as the knob is turned up.
- Mode — Mode selector that sets the Flow button behavior: Clk (tap tempo/clock input), Hld (grain-freeze toggle), or Frz (momentary grain freeze).
- Length CV — CV input for grain Length parameter.
- Out L — Left channel audio output.
- Flow — Button for Flow control. Behavior depends on Mode switch: in Clk mode acts as tap tempo, in Hld mode freezes/unfreezes grains on toggle, in
- Cohere — Reduces the randomness of grain triggering as the knob is turned up.
- Length — Changes the length of the grain from 0.2s to 2s.
- Status LED 3 — Status indicator LED (yellow on boot with standard firmware).
- Blend — Dry/wet mix. Fully counterclockwise is 100% dry (input signal only), fully clockwise is 100% wet (processed granular output only). At noon,
- Status LED 2 — Status indicator LED (yellow on boot with standard firmware).
- Direction — Grain playback direction. Selects between backward, chaos, and forward.
- Tone — Bipolar filter and effects control. To the left of 12:00, acts as a lowpass filter and adds detuned subharmonics. To the right of 12:00, act
- Status LED 4 — Status indicator LED (orange on boot with standard firmware).
- Rev/???/Fwd — Grain playback direction. Selects between backward, chaos, and forward.
- Clk/Hld/Frz — Mode selector that sets the Flow button behavior: Clk (tap tempo/clock input), Hld (grain-freeze toggle), or Frz (momentary grain freeze).
