Mutable Instruments Peaks
Dual trigger converter: envelopes, LFOs, and drums
8 HP Eurorack module
Peaks is a dual-channel trigger-to-signal converter that packs four distinct functions into 8HP: ADSR envelope generator, LFO, tap-tempo LFO, and drum synthesizer. It can run both channels independently or in linked modes, making it a flexible gap-filler for any Eurorack system. Its drum synthesis models classic 808 kick, snare, and hi-hat sounds, giving it genuine percussive character beyond utility use.
Features
- Dual independent channels each selectable between ADSR envelope, LFO, tap-tempo LFO, and drum synth
- ADSR with quartic attack and exponential decay/release, 0.2ms to 8s segments
- LFO from 0.03 Hz to 160 Hz with five waveforms and per-waveform morphing/variation
- Tap-tempo LFO that can lock to irregular rhythms
- 808 kick model on channel 1 with tune and punch parameters
- 808 snare model on channel 2 with tune and decay parameters
- 808 hi-hat accessible via specific snare parameter combination on channel 2
- Three control modes: Twin (shared parameters), Split (2 params per channel), Expert (fully independent)
- 16-bit CV/audio generation at 48kHz sample rate
- 0 to +8V output for envelopes, 10Vpp for LFOs and drum signals
- Trigger inputs with 100k impedance and 0.6V threshold
- Phase at reset control for LFO modes
Controls & Jacks (17)
- Knob 1 — Channel 1 first parameter (mode-dependent: Attack in ADSR, Rate in LFO, Tune in Drum)
- Knob 3 — Channel 1 second parameter (mode-dependent: Decay in ADSR, Waveform in LFO, Punch in Drum)
- Manual TRIG 2 — Selects control mode: Twin (shared parameters), Split (simplified), or Expert (independent)
- Knob 2 — Channel 2 first parameter (mode-dependent: Sustain in ADSR, Phase in LFO, Tune in Drum)
- TRIG 2 Input — Trigger input for Channel 1 envelope or drum voice
- Manual TRIG 1 — Selects operating mode for Channel 1 (ADSR, LFO, or Drum synth)
- OUT 2 — Trigger input for Channel 2 envelope or drum voice
- TRIG 1 Input — Audio/envelope output for Channel 1
- Knob 4 — Channel 2 second parameter (mode-dependent: Release in ADSR, Waveform in LFO, Decay in Drum)
- Function — Tap to set LFO tempo or to synchronize LFO to external rhythm
- OUT 1 — Audio/envelope output for Channel 2
- Split — Selects operating mode for Channel 2 (ADSR, LFO, or Drum synth)
- Drum LED — Indicates Channel 1 activity/envelope progression
- Split LED — Indicates Channel 1 operating mode
- Envelope LED — Indicates Channel 2 operating mode
- LFO LED — Indicates current control mode setting
- Tap LFO LED — Indicates current control mode setting
