Qu-Bit Electronix Aurora
Spectral reverb from shimmer to alien soundscapes
12 HP Eurorack module
Aurora is a spectral reverb module by Qu-Bit Electronix that uses a phase vocoder and FFT-based engine to manipulate audio in the frequency domain. It produces sounds ranging from lush time-stretched tails and icy shimmers to alien textures, whale songs, and cybernetic metallic effects. Its response is entirely dependent on the input signal, making every patch unique.
Features
- Spectral reverb with true stereo audio IO
- Phase vocoder audio engine running at 48kHz 24-bit
- FFT-based spectral processing with 4 selectable FFT sizes: 512, 1024, 2048, 4096
- Warp: frequency domain pitch shifting from 3 octaves down to 3 octaves up with 1V/oct CV tracking
- Time: amplitude domain blurring for time-stretched tails
- Blur: frequency domain smearing for alien spectral effects
- Reflect: multi-tap delay time zone morphing for rhythmic reverb combinations
- Atmosphere: combined spectral and time domain filter for tonal shaping from whalesongs to icy textures
- Reverse: plays input audio backwards with gate CV input
- Freeze: locks spectral snapshot of input signal with gate CV input
- Mix: dry/wet blend with CV input
- Shift button for secondary functions including input level, USB reload, FFT size, and factory reset
Controls & Jacks (21)
- Atmosphere — Tames or unleashes frequency spectrum with precision filtering and harmonic additions
- Mix — Mix knob - dry/wet balance
- Reverse — Reverse button - reverses spectral playback
- Left In — Left channel audio input for the spectral reverb processor
- Shift — Accesses secondary functions and parameter pages when held
- Mix CV In — Mix knob - dry/wet balance
- Warp — Transposes the wet signal up or down 3 octaves from the original pitch
- Blur — Smears spectral content across frequency bands, creating diffuse, washy textures at higher settings
- Left Out — Left channel audio output from the spectral reverb processor
- Reflect — Morphs between multi tap stereo delay time zones, creating long tails
- Freeze — Freeze button - freezes current spectral content
- Warp CV In — Transposes the wet signal up or down 3 octaves from the original pitch
- Atmosphere CV In — CV input for voltage control of the Atmosphere parameter
- Reflect CV In — Morphs between multi tap stereo delay time zones, creating long tails
- Freeze In — Locks and holds incoming audio for spectral drones
- Right In — Right channel audio input; normalled from Left In when unpatched for mono-to-stereo operation
- Right Out — Right channel audio output from the spectral reverb processor
- Time CV In — CV input for voltage control of the reverb decay time
- Reverse In — Plays incoming audio backwards into the signal path
- Time — Controls reverb decay time from short ambiences to infinite sustain
- Blur CV In — CV input for voltage control of the Blur parameter
