Nano Rand v2 is a compact 4HP sample-and-hold, random voltage generator, and analog noise source built around an 8-bit microcontroller. It offers four switchable random voltage algorithms ranging from stepped voltages to audio-rate square waves, and generates musically-related random gate outputs when externally clocked. Its digital core brings a distinctly musical character to aleatoric patching, producing evolving rhythms and unpredictable but harmonically coherent voltage sequences.

Controls & Jacks (16)
- Gate Out — When internally clocked, outputs periodic gate signals at internal clock rate. When externally clocked, outputs random gate signals derived
- Rand — Random voltage output. Four algorithms: Magenta (stepped voltages), Cyan (LFO waveforms/frequencies), Amber (audio rate square waves), Green
- Clk — When internally clocked, acts as CV input to modulate internal clock rate. When externally clocked, acts as gate input for external clock so
- Noise — Analog white noise output with extremely flat frequency response.
- Rand Algo — Advances to the next random algorithm sequentially.
- Rand Algo — Gate input that advances to the next random algorithm. Threshold voltage is 2.5V.
- S+H Out — Sample & hold output. Range is ±8V.
- S+H In — Sample & hold input. Accepts both audio rate and control rate signals. Range is ±8V.
- Bi — Bipolar polarity control input.
- Rate — Controls internal clock speed (fully left = slowest, fully right = fastest). When externally clocked, controls rhythmic probability of rando
- Ext — External clock mode trigger input.
- Int — Internal clock mode trigger input.
- Range — Switches internal clock between high range (up) and low range (down).
- Int/Ext — Switches between internal clock (up) and external clock (down).
- Uni/Bi — Switches random voltage output between unipolar positive (0V–5V) and bipolar (±8V).
- Rate LED — Shows current clock rate of internal or external clock source; color indicates active random algorithm
