Random*Source Serge Resonant EQ
Ten-band resonant formant sculptor with feedback
14 HP Eurorack module
The Serge Resonant EQ is a ten-band equalizer designed for electronic sound synthesis, with bands spaced at major seventh intervals to produce formant peaks and valleys similar to acoustic instruments. Each band can be set to flat, boost/cut up to 12dB, or pushed into resonance for dramatic tonal sculpting. The Random*Source Eurorack adaptation adds an input mixer with two channels, a feedback path with phase inversion, and COMB outputs mixing alternating bands for comb-filter-like timbral effects.
Features
- Ten-band equalizer with bands spaced at major seventh intervals (except top and bottom bands)
- Bands can be set to flat, boost/cut up to 12dB, resonant, or deep rejection
- COMB1 output mixing alternating odd bands: 29Hz, 115Hz, 411Hz, 1.5kHz, 5.2kHz
- COMB2 output mixing alternating even bands: 61Hz, 218Hz, 777Hz, 2.8kHz, 11kHz
- Two EQ outputs (identical) mixing all ten bands
- Two inputs with individual level/gain knobs (IN1, IN2)
- Input gain resistors RG1/RG2 configurable for unity, +33%, or +47% maximum gain
- Input gain stage can distort/clip signal before entering EQ when driven hard
- Feedback section with knob controlling amount of output fed back to input
- Phase switch for normal or inverted feedback
- Inverted feedback produces phase cancellation, thinning, and level reduction
- Normal feedback increases level and can drive self-oscillation
