Recovery Effects Cutting Room Floor
Vintage reel-to-reel tape overdrive and echo
6 HP Eurorack module
The Cutting Room Floor is a tape overdrive and echo module that emulates the sound and behavior of vintage reel-to-reel tape machines. It delivers saturated, harmonically rich tape tones with ethereal delay repeats, wow and flutter modulation, and a freeze function that captures audio in a living loop. Musical character ranges from subtle warmth and tape coloration to chaotic, melting, degraded tape textures.
Features
- Tape overdrive and saturation emulation
- Tape echo with single and repeat modes
- Wow modulation for downward pitch melting

- Stability switch for enabling and disabling flutter
- Freeze button for momentary loop playback head capture
- Ampex 456 and Ampex 499 tape character modeling via Delay Level knob
- CV control for delay time (+/-5V)
- Mono audio input and output
- Hand-wired in Seattle, WA
- Limited lifetime warranty
Controls & Jacks (12)
- Tape Level — Controls how hard the dry signal hits the tape simulation circuit, increasing both drive and volume as it increases.
- LEVEL — Controls the volume of the tape delay signal. In normal operation it models Ampex 499 tape characteristics. When Freeze is engaged, 12 o'clo
- Delay Time — Sets the length of the tape delay, from short slapback-style echoes to longer ambient repeats.
- Wow — Controls the depth of a downward-melting pitch modulation effect that simulates slow speed variations of aging tape machines.
- Flutter — Controls the level of fast, irregular tape flutter modulation. Must be used in conjunction with Wow.
- Shape — Controls the waveform shape of the flutter LFO, morphing from a smooth triangle wave to a hard square wave.
- IN — Mono audio input. Accepts standard Eurorack signal levels.
- OUT — Mono audio output with tape saturation and delay.
- CV — Voltage control input for Delay Time. Accepts +/-5V.
- S/R — Toggles between Single (S) and Repeat (R) modes for the delay signal.
- Freeze — Momentary button that traps current audio in a loop. Also changes Delay Level knob behavior for dual tape-character blending.
- Stability — Two-position switch that turns the Flutter LFO on or off.
