SetonixSynth Head Banger

Heavy Metal Distortion

10 HP Eurorack module

An aggressive Eurorack distortion based on the Heavy Metal guitar-pedal gain structure, expanded with EQ, voltage control, and a feedback loop.

Features

  • Three-band EQ, Doom bass boost, and Crush soft limiting.
  • Voltage-controllable input gain, feedback, and dry/wet balance.
  • Send/Return feedback-loop insert for external modular effects.

Controls & Jacks (19)

  • Feedback CV Attenuator
  • Low— Post-distortion low-band EQ, providing up to 20 dB of boost or cut with a flat center position.
  • Gain CV— CV input for input gain, with a 0–5 V response range.
  • Mid— Post-distortion mid-band EQ, providing up to 20 dB of boost or cut with a flat center position.
  • Crush— Enables a soft-clipping limiter on the distortion output, limiting it to approximately ±5 V peak-to-peak; this affects both Send and Output.
  • Return— AC-coupled audio input for the feedback loop, normalized from Send when unpatched; it is present in the wet signal but not the dry signal.
  • Input— Main AC-coupled audio input.
  • Send— Fully wet distortion output for an external effect or another signal chain.
  • Gain CV Attenuator— Attenuates the Gain CV input; the CV response is linear.
  • Feedback CV— CV input controlling the feedback VCA.
  • Dry/Wet CV Attenuator— Attenuates the Dry/Wet CV input; the CV response is linear.
  • Dry/Wet CV— CV input for the dry/wet crossfade, with a 0–5 V response range.
  • High— Post-distortion high-band EQ, providing up to 20 dB of boost or cut with a flat center position.
  • Output— Final mixed audio output; its dry/wet balance is set by the Dry/Wet controls.
  • Doom— Lowers the distortion input's AC-coupling frequency to pass more bass, useful for raw VCOs, bass material, lead guitars, and chaotic feedbac
  • Dry/Wet— Crossfades between the unaffected input and distortion output; it has a linear crossfade response.
  • Feedback— Controls the level of the VCA acting on the Return input; it has an exponential response.
  • Distortion— Controls distortion intensity.
  • Gain— Controls the level of the main input signal entering the distortion stages; it has an exponential response.

How-To Guides

  • Use Send/Return as a feedback-loop insert
