Tiptop Audio SD808
Authentic TR-808 snare drum, modular-ready with hot gain
4 HP Eurorack module
The SD808 is a one-to-one analog clone of the Roland TR-808 snare drum circuit adapted for Eurorack modular synthesis. It faithfully reproduces the iconic 808 snare sound using two T-Network sine wave oscillators and a white noise VCA, while adding an enhanced output gain stage capable of hot, overdriven tones well beyond the original machine. Musical character ranges from soft, pillowy snare tones to aggressive, distorted hits with tight attack transients.
Features
- One-to-one analog clone of Roland TR-808 snare drum circuit
- Two T-Network pure sine wave oscillators at different pitches
- White noise source through envelope-controlled VCA
- TONE knob blends low-pitch and high-pitch sine wave generators
- SNAPPY knob controls noise envelope amplitude and decay time
- Independent per-module ACCENT level control (unlike global accent on original TR-808)
- Enhanced output gain stage capable of up to 20Vp.p for overdrive and clipping
- GATE IN normalized to ACCENT IN when accent input is unpatched
- Onboard white noise gain trimmer accessible via flat-head screwdriver on left side of module
- Later-revision Roland noise circuit design for improved sound quality
- Compatible with any gate or trigger source in Eurorack
Controls & Jacks (7)
- Gate In — Gate/trigger input that triggers the snare drum sound.
- Accent In — Gate/trigger input for accent signals. When unpatched, incoming gate signal is normalized to both Accent and Gate inputs. When patched, allo
- SD Out — Audio output of the snare drum sound.
- Level — Controls output gain level of the snare drum sound. At maximum with Accent and Snappy settings, can output up to 20Vp.p. Range 0-50% gives s
- Tone — Sets the mix between two sine wave generators. CCW is low pitch, CW is high pitch, full range provides blend of both.
- Accent — Sets the accent level independently per drum sound. When no Accent input is connected, acts as fine control of output gain level. When Accen
- Snappy — Controls the white noise envelope generator amplitude and decay time. Adds or subtracts white noise component to the mix. Defines how hard t
