Tiptop Audio SD909
Authentic TR-909 snare drum in Eurorack format
8 HP Eurorack module
The SD909 is an exact analog recreation of the Roland TR-909 snare drum circuit adapted for Eurorack modular use. It faithfully reproduces the classic 909 snare sound using internal VCOs and a binary noise generator, while adding voltage control over noise frequency, tune, and accent for expanded sonic exploration. The module also provides a raw noise output, making it a dual-purpose percussion voice and noise source.
Features
- Exact analog recreation of TR-909 snare drum circuit
- Original TR-909 controls: Tone, Tune, Snappy
- Independent accent level control (unlike original TR-909 global accent)
- Voltage-controlled binary noise generator (original TR-909 noise was fixed)
- Raw unfiltered noise output (NOISE OUT) for use as external sound source
- VC-NOISE input for CV control of noise clocking frequency
- VC-TUNE input for CV control of internal VCO pitch
- ACCENT IN accepts gate/trigger or CV signal
- Gate normalled to accent input when ACCENT IN is unpatched
- Front panel 909 reference dots indicating original TR-909 control positions
- Trigger button for manual triggering
- Snappy range exceeds original TR-909 for extended sound design
Controls & Jacks (14)
- Trigger — Trigger input button to fire the snare drum sound
- SD Out — Main audio output of the SD909 snare drum
- Noise Out — Output of the pure unfiltered TR-909 binary noise generator
- VC-Noise — Voltage control input for noise generator frequency
- Tune — Controls the pitch of the internal VCOs
- VC-Tune — CV input for controlling VCO pitch
- Tone — Voltage control input for VCO pitch tuning
- Gate In — Gate input for triggering the snare drum; normalized to accent input when not patched
- Accent In — Accent CV or gate input for dynamic control; breaks normalization when patched
- Noise — Controls the level of the noise generator; set to marked 909 region for authentic TR-909 sound
- Level — Controls the gain of the noise section to balance noise vs oscillator kick sound
- VC — Voltage control knob for modulating snare parameters
- Snappy — Controls the length of the noise component in the snare drum
- ACC — Controls the accent level; also acts as fine gain control when accent input is not patched
