WMD Clutch
Hi-Hat Percussion Sample Player
8 HP Eurorack module
Clutch is a dual-layer sample-based percussion module for playable hi-hats and experimental percussion. It combines replaceable Surface A samples with internal Surface B sounds, pitch and envelope shaping, filters, effects, velocity control, and an eight-groove Feel engine.
Features
- Layer, blend, or modulate two sample surfaces to create varied percussion timbres.
- Includes acoustic, electronic, and synthesized sounds; Surface A accepts user samples and additional banks.
- Provides sample-rate pitch control, output filters, envelope shaping, and onboard effects.
- The Feel engine applies velocity patterns from eight user-editable grooves.
- Surface B continues playing while a Surface A bank change temporarily stops Surface A playback.
- Replacement samples must be mono 16-bit, 48 kHz WAV files named 01CH.wav–16CH.wav for closed hits and 01OH.wav–16OH.wav for open hits.
- Remember: preserve the color-named bank folders because Clutch uses their names to organize and load banks.
- Trim each sample start to its initial transient at a zero crossing and avoid excess silence at the end.
- Remember: use the specified SanDisk SDHC Class 4 memory card.
- Bank, effect, and Feel LED color assignments can be customized for accessibility.
- CV inputs sum with their associated knob settings, with a 5 V full sweep.
- Global settings are saved after one minute.
Controls & Jacks (24)
- Pitch A— Changes the Surface A samples' playback rate to control pitch with characteristic resampling artifacts.
- Surface B / Pitch B / LPF— Multifunction lower-right knob: selects Surface B, controls Pitch B or adjusts the output LPF according to its mode switch; controls FX Inte
- Release— Sets the playback-envelope length for both open and closed samples.
- A/B Blend— Crossfades between replaceable memory-card Surface A samples and the internal Surface B sounds.
- Balance / Release Offset / HPF— Multifunction lower-left knob: selects open/closed Balance, closed-sample Release Offset, or the output HPF according to its mode switch; co
- Choke— Trigger input that quickly damps the currently playing sound with a natural fast envelope.
- Accent— Indicates accent behavior: with Feel off, red is a closed accent and cyan an open accent; with Feel on, green is a closed hit/reset and viol
- Surface A— Selects one of up to 16 closed/open sample pairs in the current replaceable Surface A memory-card bank.
- Closed Trigger— Trigger or gate input for the closed hi-hat sound; trigger mode is the default and gate behavior is configurable in HIHAT.INI.
- Feel— Shows the active Feel pattern when Feel is enabled.
- Release CV— Control-voltage input for the shared open- and closed-sample release time; governed by the CV On / Off switch.
- Surface A CV— Control-voltage input for selecting samples on Surface A; governed by the CV On / Off switch.
- Out— Audio output for the combined Surface A and Surface B sound.
- Open Trigger— Trigger or gate input for the open hi-hat sound.
- FX Parameter CV— CV input for the currently selected effect parameter; its default range is 0–5 V, with bipolar operation and disabling available through HIH
- Accent / Feel Control— Hold right to toggle Feel, tap left or right to cycle Feel patterns, and hold left to change accent behavior. In FX mode, this same switch c
- A/B CV— CV input for the A/B blend, governed by the CV On / Off switch.
- Velocity— Velocity-level CV input, bipolar -5 V to +5 V by default; unipolar operation and disabling are configurable in HIHAT.INI. It remains active
- Pitch A CV— Control-voltage input for the Surface A sample-rate and pitch parameter; governed by the CV On / Off switch.
- Bank / Hold FX— Tap to change Surface A banks. Hold to enter or exit FX mode, or hold while using FX controls for momentary effects that end on release. Ban
- CV On / Off— Enables or blocks incoming CV for Surface A, Pitch A, Release, and A/B Blend; Velocity and FX Parameter CV remain active by default unless d
- Bank / FX Indicator— Shows the selected sample-bank color and flashes the selected effect color during FX mode.
- Surface B / Pitch B / LPF Mode— Selects Surface B, Pitch B or the output LPF for the lower-right multifunction knob. Moving this switch exits FX mode.
- Balance / Release Offset / HPF Mode— Selects Balance, Release Offset or the output HPF for the lower-left multifunction knob. Moving this switch exits FX mode.
